Patricia Floyd (Trish) has a tattoo on her left arm that reads “non omnis moriar”. In Latin, it means ‘not all of me will die’. In other words, something will outlast you, so what do you want to leave behind?
For Trish, she wants to leave behind a legacy of teaching and helping others in the sport of boxing. A program that will outlast her and leave an impact on anyone who enters the Olympus Boxing Club.
Lacrossing Barriers (LB) Monday Night Boxing is just one of the programs she is involved in. Trish started teaching the program in September 2023 and enjoys the energy and community that LB brings every session.
“They're a very tight knit group because they do a lot of different activities together,” said Trish.
“They're always very excited and .. here for a good time, so it's fun and allows me to be creative with a lot of different boxing material.”
One such game is called mountains and valleys.
It starts with a number of agility cones spread around the floor.
The class is split into two teams and assigned either as a mountain or a valley.
Mountains have make sure the cones remain on their base, while valleys have to flip them upside-down. The team with the most cones wins, with the loser having to complete a punishment in the form of push-ups or sit-ups.
Trish started boxing as a fitness venture and got into the technical side later on. In 2019, she was asked by a coach if she wanted to fight. After 32 fights, attending the Pan American Qualifiers in 2023 and the Olympic Trials in 2024, she has a world of experience to share with her classes.
For her, teaching is like figuring out a puzzle, finding which methods work for different people.
“I really enjoy passing on my knowledge and delivering it in different ways so that it's received by people who are maybe struggling … or just need to try different concepts in different ways.”
She is no stranger to breaking barriers herself, starting the Olympus Boxing Women’s Program in February 2024, an initiative she is passionate about.
“I had to figure out a lot of things for myself, just being a girl in the sport and it's really exciting that I'm able to … help other girls overcome those barriers or avoid certain pitfalls that I did.”
Trish aims to stoke potential in her LB class and with all her students.

“If they put their mind to it, they can achieve it,” said Trish
“I want them to think of it as a fun time and there's a lot of different ways that they can enjoy the sport.”
